CSS3 Animations

Using pure CSS (no JavaScript), you can only apply transitions when an element changes class (such as from foo to foo:hover). Animations are triggered when a page loads, not when a class is changed. Additionally, an animation can invoke a stream of transitions.

Using JavaScript, transitions are triggered whenever you change a CSS property for which you specified a transition. Similarly, you can begin an animation with JavaScript whenever you like.

Animations are covered on the CSS3 Animations page (also on the menu above).
